Iona College recently opened the expansion of the LaPenta School of Business. The project doubled the building’s academic space to more than 68,000 SF. Program elements include over twenty classrooms, a mock trading floor, 56 offices, many study rooms and a 100+ seat lecture hall.
Longman Lindsey provided acoustical consulting for the project. The central atrium was the focus of acoustic modeling, to ensure surface finishes would provide a welcoming environment for a wide variety of events. Acoustic treatment bridges between the glass exterior of the new construction, and the brick façade of the original building, now a central feature of the atrium. Steerable linear array speakers allow for perfect intelligibility of sound. Governor Cuomo broadcast his daily briefing, live, from the atrium, in May 2020.
The school features many classrooms with distance learning technology, a mock trading room, as well as a lecture hall that could easily be found in any financial firm headquarters. We provided each of these spaces with interior acoustic environment designed to suit the specific intended usage.
