50 Broad Street had undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, and, during the process, Man Made Music moved their studio to the building. Man Made Music moved from a midtown location to this designed isolated music studio.
The studio is located above other tenants, therefore airborne and structure-borne noise transmission was a concern. We reviewed the base building acoustical separation by testing the existing floor and ceiling assembly. Our testing helped quantify the level of noise reduction needed at the existing building to facilitate design, and the floating room structure needed to contain the potentially loud music. We also assessed the sensitive interior acoustical environment of a studio to recommend types, extent, and locations for sound absorptive materials, maintaining a low level of reverberation.
